16 Days / 15 Nights       Highlights of Sri Lanka

 

1. Day     Arrival @ Bandaranaike Colombo Airport, Transfer to Negombo

After your arrival at Colombo airport we get to know each other and will drive to Negombo, where one can recover from the long flight during a cosy dinner. In the evening there is a town center tour through Negombo. The day can be ended calmly.




2. Day     Elephant Orphanage, Pinnawala

The day begins with an extensive breakfast, which supplies energy for the following attendance of Pinnawela. In the elephant orphanage we can watch the young and old members of a large herd of elephants (50-100!) being fed and bathed, with our help.




3. Day- Polonnaruwa, Gal Vihara

Polonnaruwa was Sri Lanka's captal city from the 11th to the 13th century. There we can admire the remains of enormous temple estates, three enormous Buddha statues struck in stone and temples with numerous further Buddha statues as well as gardens, parks and palace estates with various buildings.




4. Day     Sigiriya Lion Rock

Attendance of the Sigiriya built in the 5th century, now world culture inheritance. The rock fortress of king Kassapa I. rises up 200 meters out of the jungle's soil and is surrounded by complexly arranged gardens, the castle ditches and fortress barriers. This surely is a singular experience. During our visit we will see watergardens, historic frescs, the Stone Mirror Wall and the Lion Platform. For the sportive participants of the tour the climb is a must to be able to enjoy the impressing view.




5. Day     Kandy, The Royal Botanical Gardens and the Tooth Temple

In the morning we will admire the famous Royal Botanical Gardens „Peradeniya“, a garden situated idyllically on a peninsula in the Mahaweli river. It is said to be one of the most beautiful gardens in Asia and attracts hundreds of visitors each year. Afterwards we will visit the holy Tooth Temple which is said to be guarding Buddha's teeth since the early start of buddhism. In Kandy we will be witnesses of traditional dances while beeing spoiled with delicious and exotic food.



6. Day     Nuwara Eliya

We will start early to Nuwara Eliya (with 16° C one of the coldest places in Sri Lanka!) via the Paradaniya path and through forests and hilly landscapes to the local hindu temples Hambacka and Gadaladaiya. With our van we will make a little trip to a tea factory, where the popular Ceylon tea is produced. Of course in Nuwara Eliya a dinner and accommodation have been provided for.




7. Day- Haputale, Horton Plains and Worlds End

With packed breakfast we will drive to the Horton Plains, Sri Lanka's highest plateau of more than 3250 meters above seal level. This is one of most beautiful treks passing by various landscapes of untouched hills and grass countrysides including spectacular views. From the 700-meter high World's End we can admire the excellent view and numerous rare bird species. Afterwards we go on to the marvellous Baker-Waterfalls, 3 hours walk. After lunch the tour leads us to our bungalows in the tea plantation.




8. Day     Thangamalay Forest Reservat, Ohiya Trekking

In the early morning we start the tour through Thangamalay Forest Reserve, via Eucalyptus forests and jungle, via tea estates and wonderful hill countrysides seeing Sri Lanka from its best side.




9. Day     Bambarakanda Waterfall Ohiya

After breakfast we will hike to the Bambarakanda Waterfall, the highest in Sri Lanka. We will hike over hills with infinite panoramas and more waterfalls, to a smaller waterfall to have a swim there. Later we will meet our bus that will take us back to the hotel.




10. Day     trainride through Sri Lankas Hillcountry 

This time the train takes us very early to Hatton, from where our tour starts, via the forest, ending in Haputale. This route is one of the hidden treks which usually stay undoscovered by the average tourist and includes a way through impressive tea estates and gorgeous hillcountrysides. The whole tour will take approximately 6 hours but rewards the participants with unique impressions.




11. Day    Sunrise on Adams Peak

At night we will climb Adam's Peak. This cone shaped mountain is maybe one of the most admired ones of the world and destination of pilgrimage for christians, muslims and hindus as well. Still dark we will reach the peak, just in time to be witness of this special sunrise which is said to be one of the most spectacular phenomenons of the world.  In the evening after a 2nd late breakfast we drive to the south to Tangalle, optional Mirissa or other beachsides.




12.-15. Day     Tangalle Beach, Mangrove Cabana

A whole day for pure relaxation, including all services the hotel has to offer: possibilities are for example professional massages (at the beach), mud baths, ayurveda treatments, masks and other pamperings. This is the day that shall revitalize us.



16. Day     Return flight:

It's time to say goodbye to Sri Lanka- have a safe flight back!
