At our own pace, we climb Adam's Peak. This cone-shaped mountain is one of the most revered in the world, a pilgrimage site for Christians, Muslims, and Hindus alike. Those who reach the summit before dawn may, under good weather conditions, witness an unforgettable sunrise. After the descent and a shower at our guesthouse, we continue on to Udawalawe National Park — approximately a 3.5-hour drive. Countless birds can already be spotted in the immediate vicinity of the hotel. After checking in, we head out for a short walk through the local area, where binoculars and cameras really come into their own. We round off the day relaxing by the pool.
