Day 1 – Pekoe Trail Stage 12 - Thangamalay Trek

In the morning, we take the train from Haputale to Ohiya, where our trek begins. From Ohiya, we follow the trail through the Thangamalay Forest Reserve towards Udaweriya. The route takes us through eucalyptus and pine forests, sections of natural rainforest and across the lush green tea plantations of this spectacular mountain region.

Here, we experience Sri Lanka at its most beautiful – away from the main tourist routes and surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of the hill country. We trek for around 5-6 Stunden to our lodge in the mountains, far away from the surrounding villages and the noise of everyday life. Thanks to the remote location and extremely low levels of light pollution, the night sky here can be exceptionally clear. On a cloudless night, countless stars and, with a little luck, shooting stars create a truly unforgettable experience.

Day 2 - Bambarakanda Waterfall

We reach a natural pool, where, weather and conditions permitting, we can take a refreshing swim. We also take time for a picnic and enjoy the surrounding scenery and the peaceful atmosphere of Sri Lanka’s highlands. We then continue our trek to Kalupahana, where our vehicle will be waiting to take us comfortably back to Haputale or Bandarawela.

Along the way, we reach a natural pool, where, conditions permitting, we can take a refreshing swim. We take time for a break and a picnic, enjoying the scenery and the peaceful atmosphere of the highlands. We then continue our trek to Kalupahana, where our bus will be waiting to take us comfortably back to Haputale or Bandarawela.

About Our Treks

The tours we offer are private and individually organised hikes. You will not be combined with other travel groups, but will have your own personal trekking guide with you. Together with your guide, you can decide for yourself how intensively and for how long you would like to hike. Our hikes generally last around 5–6 hours, with plenty of time for breaks, a picnic and enjoying the many beautiful views along the way.

For us, it is not about setting sporting records. What matters much more is that you can truly enjoy the landscape, take in your surroundings and make the trek a memorable experience. Our guides adapt closely to your individual level, allowing you to hike as much or as little as you like.
